Martinborough Community Choir Update

November 6, 2020 November 2020 No Comments

This has been a very patchy year so far for our choir, as we decided early on that we would ONLY feel comfortable meeting at Covid Alert Level 1. Especially after reading guidelines from the New Zealand Choral Federation for choirs wishing to keep rehearsing during Alert Level 2:

“2 metres between singers, both side to side and front to back. The conductor should stand as far back from the choir as practicable. Don’t sing in a circle formation – all the singers should face forward.”

We realised that this would be be completely unworkable, and it would be much safer to just take a break, and sing in the shower – separately.

This has meant that we’ve been unable to perform in public so far this year as we’ve had so little time to practice together, but we are planning a few events – Covid-willing – over the next few weeks:

An ‘open rehearsal’ at The First Church, Weld St. on Tuesday eve, November 17 at 7.30pm. (This will be an informal occasion for our choir friends and family, and for anyone who is potentially interested in joining the choir).

A set of songs at a ‘Tin Hut Live’ music night, on Friday November 20.

Our usual end-of-year concert, on Tuesday eve, December 8, at 7.30pm, at St Andrew’s Church Hall.  Hoping to see you on one of these occasions!
