How nice it has been to see our new Waihinga Centre playground being well used by local and visitor children alike over our long hot summer. Martinborough Lions are particularly happy about this great result, having donated $50,000 towards revamping the playground, and in particular installing the slide tower. 

The playground now a well-used resource for our local children, and many visitors have commented how great it is that there is something nice for their kids to do here. Well done to all concerned. SWDC Mayor Alex Beijen and Waihinga Centre Trust Chair Victoria Read both thanks the Lions at a small ceremony to unveil a plaque on the slide in February this year.

Martinborough Lions installed 16 more Penguin boxes on the Palliser Bay Coast over the past month, having installed many of these over the years. The new Cape Palliser Road trapline has already “nailed” over 90 predators. We hope that keeping this up will encourage the Little Blue Penguins that used to frequent our coastline to return!

A reminder to Mountain Bikers, Runners and Walkers that the Lion’s Skyline Challenge on the hills to the east of Martinborough is on 25^th April.  Our charity this year is the Wharekaka Aged Care Community. The event has been orientated to a family fun day this year, as well as providing a challenge for serious Mountain bikers. Register your entry now on https://skylinechallenge.co.nz/.

Martinborough Lions are keen to attract new members. Fellowship and Community Service are high on our priority list.
