Martinborough move for pizza business

October 13, 2023 October 2023 Comments Off on Martinborough move for pizza business

Our big open spaces, sense of community and wine were a massive draw card for Trent Warren of Roving Pizza. Trent, his wife Theresa, their 3 daughters along with their pizza business, and horses, have recently moved to Wairarapa from Northland.

The family had set up Roving Pizza in Waipu where they made a reputation for the very best traditional Napolitana style wood-fired pizzas.

“Making pizza started off as a hobby for me,” Trent Warren noted. “I had previously worked as a head chef in fine dining restaurants, specifically Toto in Auckland when my passion for Italian food first started. Then, when Theresa and I started a family … I decided to change up my career, dabbling in real estate and beekeeping.

“But I kept making pizzas, experimenting with traditional Italian methods, and serving my creations to friends and family,” says Trent.

With strong encouragement from friends to take his hobby public, Roving Pizza was born.

“Finding my perfect dough made for some epic failures early on, but I have now perfected a particular style of dough using a preferment process known as the poolish style dough. The style has Polish origins, and is similar to a sourdough starter, which is fermented for 16 to 24 hours.  … Continue Reading

Fire Brigade Report

October 13, 2023 October 2023, Regular Features Comments Off on Fire Brigade Report

By Chief Fire Officer Jake Hawkins

So far this year the Brigade has responded to over 225 calls into our community, with over 70% of these being calls for our Medical First Response Unit. Our firefighters continue to train hard for both our Medical and our Fire responses.

A recent house fire in town was an excellent save of the structure and adjacent properties. Along with daylight saving changes, this is a timely reminder to check your Smoke Alarms are working – the life they save could be yours.

We are due to mark the Service of our Members at our Honours night at the beginning of November, this event has been delayed due to Covid restrictions, so we are looking forward to getting all our team, plus our former and life members together.

Qualified Firefighter Callum Tannant is leaving us, He and Melissa have moved to Greytown, where CFO Seth Rance has already organised for Callum’s transfer into Greytown Brigade.

Callum, thank you for your dedicated service the Martinborough Brigade and the Community over the years, and we know our loss will be to Greytowns benefit.

We are starting our planning and training for the forecast El Nino summer ahead, so remember if you smell smoke or see smoke its time to Dial 111 immediately, then if your house is involved get out and STAY out. Escape plans save lives.

If you have any queries about assistance or response please don’t hesitate to contact me directly – CFO Jake Hawkins – 0272-559-440

Featherston Gentlemen’s Singers and the Songbirds.

October 13, 2023 October 2023 Comments Off on Featherston Gentlemen’s Singers and the Songbirds.

Finally, in spite of several cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances, the Featherston Gentlemen’s Singers and the Songbirds are ready to raise their voices in song.

“Our first performance will be at Aratoi on the 6th of October, where some of Rita Angus’s paintings are being exhibited, so this inspired our title “Singing with Rita” says Marguerite Tait Jamieson.

The repertoire will be varied, ranging from Gershwin to Bacharach as well as more traditional settings of folk, gospel, music theatre and classical. Both choirs will present brackets of songs as well as some combined numbers. One old favourite that always has to be included is “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.”

The concert at Aratoi will begin at 4.30pm with drinks in the foyer prior to the performance beginning at 5.30 pm.

The concert will be repeated on the 8th of October in the Anzac Hall at Featherston at 4.30pm.

Tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased from Aratoi Reception or from info@songbirds.co.nz. Featherston Tickets can be reserved by emailing longwood@xtra.co.nz
