FISHING COMPETITION RAISES 4K FOR MARTINBOROUGH FIRE BRIGADE

Fishing-contest-raises...The Hunting & Fishing sponsored Pukemanu Fishing Open, held its annual competition on 8-9 November based out of Pukemanu Tavern with fishing taking place out of Ngawi and Tora coast.
Weather gods were kind allowing approximately 100 anglers young and old to get on the water and catch the seven species sort over two days of fishing.

Resulting fish that were weighed in, were auctioned by Martinborough volunteer fire brigade as a fund raiser. The auction taking place in the Martinborough Square out-side Pukemanu Tavern. Public that took part in the fish auction were treated to some quality fresh fish and were generous in their bids with the brigade made $2500.00 from the auction. A further $1500.00 was donated by a generous participant of the fishing competition. Raising the total to 4k.

Great fishing was had by all anglers as shown by the general good condition of fish weighed. Cape Palliser Marine Radio assisted with communications and ensured a safe competition, thanks to Murray.
The results of the competition were: King and Henry Blue Cod Section winner, Brandon Fenwick with a cod 2.84kg. Masterton Pak N Save Groper Section, winner Charlie Baldwin 15.4kg. Bruce Buchanan Ltd Gurnard Section, winner Warren Edwards 1.7kg. The Boat Shed and Autos Kahawai Section, winner Leisa Riddell 1.78 kg. Hire Shop Greytown Terakihi Section, winner Gavin Hodgekiss 2.43 kg. Auto Electrical Services Trumpeter Section, winner David Andrews 8.26 kg. Farmlands Greytown Kingfish Section, Winner Shane Baldwin 7.65 kg.

Hunting & Fishing (Masterton) Champion Angler for the competition was Shane Baldwin with 553.1 points. Winning a great prize of a Daiwa Electric reel and fishing rod valued at well over a thousand dollars
Anderson Hill Champion Junior Angler was Taine Hintz with 441.4 points, earning him a great fishing rod and reel, not to mention numerous other prizes and a the junior trophy for him to keep.
