Men’s Shed under way

August 11, 2015 August 2015 No Comments

Men's-Shed-under-waySince the initial public meeting in June, The Martinborough Mens Shed membership has grown to 71 with more folks signing up as the word is spreading. With all this support, the Shed is quickly becoming a reality.

The purpose of the Martinborough Mens Shed is to provide a place for members to have access to machines and tools for their own projects but also to take part in projects for the community. There will be guidance and instruction on use of equipment allowing members to learn new skills of wood and metal working and other crafts and activities wanted by members. These activities are always accompanied by time to socialise over a cup of tea and biscuit.

Early July, over 30 members pitched in at our first working bee to begin upgrading the storage facility Council has allowed us to use. We are now gathering donated tools, materials and machines which will need to be cleaned, serviced and made ready for members’ projects. Everyone is keen to keep the momentum going so we plan to begin some projects at this site while finalising the search for the permanent building.
Behind the scenes, the Inaugural Committee has written a constitution for the members, filed papers to become a not-for- profit society, set up a website and organised working bees. Anyone interested in the Martinborough Mens Shed is encouraged to check out the website at http://menzshed.org.nz/martinborough-menz-shed/ or email us at MartinboroughShed@gmail.com, or talk to any member.
