First off I must apologise for the small disruption in services during the major flooding incidents we had a few weeks ago.  It is difficult when all our regular staff live outside of Martinborough.  It took me an hour and a half on the Friday morning to get in through Western Lake Road and wasn’t that an eye-opener.  Such a lovely drive, well in good weather I imagine it is, but not if you want to get somewhere in a hurry!

Richmel couldn’t get home on Thursday and had to bunk with a friend.  You have all done really well and no library books got wet in the floods.  We have had a few enthusiastic dogs knawing on books recently however I guess they have to get their excitement from somewhere!

I have some really lovely people to thank, first off Tom Bunny who has donated a very generous amount to the Friends of Martinborough Library for the Children’s library.  Secondly the fantastic members of the Esther Street mid year gathering whose raffle raised $200 – again for the Children’s library.  Then there is ‘A’ who wants to remain anonymous but donated $50.

Another grateful thank you to everyone who sews, picks up golf balls and donates time, material or money to our fund.  We are currently up to over $3,500.  The Friends of Martinborough Library are almost underway, the Trust is being set up and all the legal stuff being put in place.  Kate Throp and Maureen Connor are the primary movers on this at the moment (thanks guys) but they do need more helpers.

Right, on to library things.  It is a real time of sickness at the moment with a nasty bug going around.  We have a hand sanitiser in the library and please do use it when you enter and even when you leave if you can.  We do sterilise the computer keyboards and doorknobs every day but a bit extra always helps.

Our new staff member, Aaron, was down with it for the first week he was meant to start work, so he is a week behind with his learning.  Please be patient, as our library system is very complex and it takes quite a few months to learn all the ins and outs.  We have had a few anomalies with it and we apologise if you have had some strange things on your account.

Don’t hesitate to ask about something if it doesn’t look right.  If you want to log on and check your account at home but don’t know how to go about it, then please just ask us and we will do a walk through with you – it’s incredibly easy when you know how.

School holidays are now over and we had some lovely activities which you can check out on our Facebook page.  Winter warmers went really well with many children reading frantically and collecting prizes.
On the social media side, we now also have an Instagram account where you can see books we recommend as well as some other fun Boards.  We also have a Twitter account which will tweet exciting stuff when I have some exciting stuff to chirp about!  All the social media stuff I do at home in the evening so I apologise if it is a bit erratic.  Must off, so many new books to process as we are in the new financial budget year!  Yippeee.

Calling all extroverts.  Martinborough Fundraiser wants you to get naked.  Remember ‘The Calendar girls’ movie?  Well, we want Marty ladies and gents to volunteer for a 2018 Calendar.  All in good taste and a lot of fun to raise money for our lovely Waihinga Centre.
