Martinborough Lions
Another Month in Level two doesn’t stop the Lions Club from helping out in the community.
A donation was made to help Two Students to go to Outward Bound and a further donation to another Student for The Spirit of Adventure.
It is with great sadness that our Club has farewelled a long standing Lions Member Warren Colton who passed away on 4th October.
Warren served as a member for nearly forty years and was a Life member of the Club.
A movie and Pizza night was held on Wednesday 20th October at the Circus Cinema, it was a great catchup time for many of the members.
Friday 22nd October, Lions members helped out with a Collection for the Blind Low Vision. Thank you to those who helped out on the day.
Lions continue to monitor Predator traplines with over ninety traps on the Palliser Bay Coast and up the Putangirua Stream. Lion Joe Howells said that in the past months catches have been lower, which may mean that we are having the desired effect on the predators, or it may be they have all hibernated for the winter? Most catches are rats and hedgehogs, with a few stoats and possums as well. Joe noted a lot of seabirds nesting along the coast on the last trip out there, also lots of Tui feeding on the Kowhai flowers in the Putangirua stream, “so maybe we are having the desired effect”, he said.
A big pile of excellent split gum for next year’s firewood has been stored by Lions in the Green Jersey yard and is now for sale. Contact Phil Reid on 027243 7183 or email philandjaquee@xtra.co.nz.
Lions; Seniors Christmas Luncheon on 4th December is now being Postponed until 9th April and will be an Easter Luncheon, if we are back in Level one, I very
much hope so.
Stay Safe and be kind to one another.
