Meet your Fire Fighters
Lisa Marie Ireland is from Martinborough and joined the Brigade 4½ years ago for a couple reasons. Lisa has always been interested in sport and the active nature of the fire service was a good fit. She also was keen to begin giving back to her home town.
A real sports enthusiast, Lisa plays on the Eketahuna women’s rugby team in the Manawatu Competitions. But golf is her favourite, boasting an enviable handicap of 4.2. She has been the Martinborough Women’s champion for the last four years and was the Champion of Champions for the Wellington/Wairarapa region. Outside her work at Cotter and Stevens and sport, you might find her at the family bach, called Rabs Island down at Tora.
Being in the extreme heat during a fire attack wearing the breathing apparatus is no problem for Lisa as she has been involved in several interior fire fighting jobs since joining the Brigade. She is also one of the few members who has completed the Pre Hospital Emergency Course, a step beyond the basic first aid course required for all members. Just last month Lisa completed the advanced Qualified Fire Fighters Course along with fellow brigade member Wayne Thomas.
