I cannot quite believe that this is the penultimate Star article for the year.  Christmas is fast approaching – oh dear.  Our Summer Reading Programme will be underway for the children very soon.  Enrolments begin from 20th November with the programme officially starting on the 4th December.
It is a good idea to get enrolled and reading early before going away for the holidays.  If you haven’t done one before then the programme is open for 2 years and up although obviously under 5s will need help with the reading!  Read a book, come in and talk to your librarian about the book and receive a sticker and a prize.
Completing 4 or more will earn you entry to the finale party and another prize!  This year the theme is Wild about reading?  This is an important way for children to keep in touch with their reading over the months they are away from school so their literacy level is less likely to drop.  We are so fortunate that the Eastern & Central Community Trust sponsors the programme and our thanks go to them.
We also have an entertainer coming along during the holidays and will let you know what, who and where closer to the time.  There will also be some holiday activities for children similar to those run in the last holiday time.

Meanwhile our Book Babies pre-school sessions are on-going on Tuesday mornings 10 to 10.30 in term time.  Singing, reading, Te Reo and sign language – isn’t our Richmel a talented lady.  Please come and support her and have fun.  My thanks to everyone who supported our Harry Potter fundraising evening.
We had THE most delicious and beautiful cake in the world.  Will Geisler, our very own Martinborough Pastry Chef, made and donated a wizarding book chocolate cake which was loved by everyone (thanks Will).  Also thanks to P&K who donated a lovely tray of sandwiches and slices.  Also thanks to Susan, Jo, Charlotte, Ronnie, Jackie, Rich, Maureen and all the helpers who made it such a success.
We had 16 children visit the Hogwarts Library and practice Quiddich, hunt for dragons and flying keys and taste test jellybeans.  Lots of fun and food was had by everyone and we raised $320 towards furnishing the children’s area.  The Friends of the library are hoping to hold another Potter evening mid-winter 2018.
I will be holding a Friends Christmas get-together in December once I have sorted myself out enough to appoint a date.
As you may know I have been helping with Boomerang Bags in Martinborough and have got sick of waiting for someone to set them up in Greytown and have just got on and done it myself.  So now I am hoping for donations for fabric and people to sew for us.  Please drop off any spare fabric to Martinborough Library or even to Kathy at Greytown Library if you happen to be there.
Wouldn’t it be lovely if the Wairarapa was the first place to get rid of plastic bags and save the planet!  It might take a little more than that but we can but try.  Have a great November, I always do as it is my birthday month – Yippee.  Shirley
