Martinborough Golf Report
Happy new year to you all – hopefully everyone is enjoying/surviving this heatwave…sorry farmers….hooray for the grape growers, hopefully it will be a good vintage!!
The course is looking supreme and is playing better than ever. Those of us lucky enough to play in this year’s Spark Pro-Am tournament were exceptionally grateful to the hard work of an army of volunteers that had a major clean up on their hands after the gale force winds that ripped through on the Wednesday. I understand that the chainsaws and leaf blowers were in action by sunrise! The day was a huge success and most enjoyable, with a fine banquet of food served after prizegiving! The winning professionals Mark Purser, Luke Kwon and Ryan Chisnall tied on 65.
Men’s interclub is underway– Division 5 won 10-5 against Titahi Bay away and Division 11 won 9.5 to 5.5 against Boulcotts Farm – keep up the good work guys!
Ladies Opening Day is on Wednesday 13th February. This will be the usual combined day with the 9 holers. There will be a not too serious game over 13 holes.
The Riversdale Men’s Open is 9th-10th February and is a popular event for all participants; last year a hole in one from one of our members was a highlight..although probable cause for the odd hangover the following day!!
Thursday Club continues to be a big turnout day with nearly 60 players mid-January, 1st Bill Gordon & Sheldon McNamara 43, 3rd Ju Allen & Dean Schaef 42, 5th Scotty the butcher 41.
Grumpies are back in action and last week results were 1st Bill Jago, 41 2nd Ted Peacock, 40 3rd Nick Allen & Mariana 39. Terry runs a great day and always welcomes new (and old!) faces.
In a slight deviation from golf – well done to Tora who played cricket at the Basin in Wellington last month and hit a 6 – a lifetime dream of his!! Don’t mention his morning score….quack…!
That pretty much wraps it up for this month, enjoy the golf and the inevitable ‘run of the fairway’ that will eventuate during this dry spell, take care of the course – repair pitch marks and divots. Green fee players and new members are welcome so if you haven’t played before, make 2019 the year to take up golf!!
Remember to slip, slop, slap and slide; take care of you and yours, and good golfing everyone!!
