Martinborough Golf Round-up:
Another year has nearly passed us by and this will be the last report for 2019. It’s been a busy year and there have been a number of changes but the course is looking fantastic and with this dry spell the roll will favour the short straight hitters, so prepare for some huge scores!!
Grumpies winners in November have included Ali Holmes, Mariana McDermott, Bob Tosswill & Malcolm Bridge.
The 9 Hole Ladies Group played their final of the Shootout, the winner was their youngest member Katrina Burgess, second was their eldest member Billie Holmes; the last game of the year they played a putting competition and Debbie Coom took out first place,
Last month the ladies played the 36-hole stroke play competition and there were some amazing scores. Carol Parkinson’s gross score was 182. They also played their shootout final; and if the photo is anything to go by, they had a very fun day out!! Sylvia Beavis reportedly played out of her skin and took home top prize, 2nd Pamela Messervy, 3rd Gretel Dick.
Thursday club has continued to bring in some huge numbers, we’re getting close to needing a shotgun start on all holes!! Winners have included Doug Clark (shooting an impressive 73), Gumboot Petersen (with an astonishing 50 points), Richard Mills, Paul McKenzie & Colin Whibley Smith; if you’re not in the mid-forties you often won’t get a look in on the prizes!! Smiddy’s tournament is being held on the 19th December – now in it’s 9th year held for the late, great Neil Smith; all are welcome.
Men’s club champs were finalised and results are as follows: – Tony Russo beat Colin Whibley-Smith (Seniors), Dayle Harwood beat Doug Clark (Intermediates), Alan Heath beat Grant Newdick (Juniors) and Richard Mills beat Jackson Gray (Bellingham Cup). Congratulations to the winners and well done to all who took part.
The Murray Halberg Day was a big success with 61 players taking part (men, women and 9-hole players) and over $2000 was raised. In the men’s division, the winner was Ro Griffiths, the ladies division was taken out by Jenny Boyne and the 9-holers victor was Jaquee Reid.
Coming up…. The Masterborough Xmas tournament, mixed foursomes, men’s shootout, and the Spark Pro-Am on the 23rd January – all results will be revealed in the next edition!!
Huge thanks to all the volunteers who have given up their time at the golf club over the last year, from the committee members to the handicapper and event organisers to the gardeners and firewood elves – your help does not go unnoticed/unappreciated!! Enjoy the festive season, take care of you and yours and good golfing everyone!!
