Toy Library has been busy

September 12, 2020 September 2020 No Comments

It’s been a busy few months for the Toy Library. Closing during the government’s level 4 and 3 lockdowns gave a chance for toys to be deep cleaned, old toys to be retired and new toys to be ordered. Among our new additions is the Schleich Dinosaur Pack, the Baby Einstein Magic Touch Music Set and the Pikler triangle and slide (for those who don’t know, this is basically an indoor climbing frame that folds away).

There have also been changes to our committee, and we have been sad to say goodbye to Amanda Ritchie, Charlotte Harding, Katie Rees and Olivia Stevens for all the time and effort they have contributed to the toy library. Special thanks go to Amanda, who has been involved with Martinborough Toy Library for 8 years – she has welcomed many of the Martinborough families as members during that time. However her own family is growing up, and we thank her for everything she has given to the community over the years.

As well as saying goodbye to old members, we have been lucky enough to welcome some new volunteers. Anneka Handyside and Beverley Gay have joined us as weekend volunteers, Nicola Röckinger has taken over from Lia Woods as our Toy Buyer, and Hayley Bartholomaeus is taking on the role of Social Media Manager.

We are always keen to have more volunteers, and it’s a great way to meet other families in the community. Teenagers or young adults undertaking the Hillary Award can also work with us to gain credit for their volunteer section. If you are interested in helping out, email martytoylibrary@gmail.com for more details.

Finally, a reminder of our opening hours. We will remain open during COVID-19 Alert Levels 1 and 2. At Level 2 we ask families to either scan or register at the front entrance to the Waihenga Centre – the side door will not be in use. We are limited to one family at a time in the space, so please be considerate of other members of they are waiting. If health issues mean you are unable to visit during this time, please email us and we can try and find a solution.
