Recovering from the Book Fair: Enjoying cafe church again: Kirk Fair ahead!
Following the great effort and success of the delayed Book Fair in August, First Church folk have taken the month of September to clear up our hall in Weld Street so we could reurn there to hold the popular cafe style Sunday services.
Through September we met in the church and adapted to meeting there in the more traditional way with pews and everyone facing one way. This confirmed what we have come to like and prefer – a relaxing gathering time for greeting and chatting over morning tea, giving everyone a better chance to keep interesting conversations going. We will still use our historic church at the special times in the church year.
We extend a warm welcome to anyone to come and join our friendly cafe church gathering in the Hall at 10am each Sunday.
A growing feature of our church gatherings is an increasing input from interesting folk from outside Martinborough – adding fresh input and spice to our services.
Everyone’s plans have been subject to change this year, with many events unfortunately cancelled, and First Church is no exception. Unable to hold our traditional Kirk Fair in October, we are planning now to proceed with it in November having been able to book the Town Hall for Saturday 21st . The AGM of First Church will take place this month when we review the activities and achievements of the past year, thank everyone who contributes in so many different ways to the ongoing vitality of our church, and think about targets and challenges in the year ahead.
Some words we use at close of Service:
Before we gather here again: may each of us bring happiness into another’s life;
May we be surprised by the gifts that surround us and enlivened by curiosity.
Empower us to live well, with compassion and a sense of justice and well being,
and to treat others in the same way we would like them to treat us.
Go Well Go with God
