Holidays are over and the kids are back at school – we had great fun at the libraries making zines (what are they, you ask? Mini-magazines!) which were photocopied so they could be shared among friends. We saw many budding authors/graphic artists/comic creators! We also played Book Bingo – families grabbed a bingo sheet, then completed fun challenges such as reading in their pyjamas, watching a story on the Library’s Storybox app (ask us about it!) and reading in a tent or fort.  Whoever completed a line, or a whole sheet, went into a draw to win a whole stack of new children’s books!

The last month of autumn is upon us!  Great timing for finding yourself a great read – the shortlist for the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards is out.  Check out the titles at https://www.nzbookawards.nz.  Wairarapa Library Service have all the titles across our four branches, so pop in and have a look – if they’re checked out, we can easily place a hold for you.

The National Simultaneous Storytime is on the 19^th May: this originally began in Australian libraries, but it was so much fun that New Zealand libraries jumped on board.  We’re working on some great activities, so stay tuned!  If you’d like to have a look at what it’s all about, check it out at https://www.alia.org.au/nss.

If you missed the career advice pop-up clinics in Martinborough and Greytown, there are more sessions at Featherston Library in mid-May.  Great help for those who are looking for work, changing careers, or needing help with your CV.  Please contact Featherston Library for more details.  There is also the opportunity to attend two free workshops in mid-June: the first being Job Search Strategies and the second is CV & Cover Letter Prep.  Online registrations are on the Wairarapa Library Service website (www.wls.org.nz), or pop into one of our branches.
