A positive outcome for Wharekaka

September 21, 2016 September 2016 No Comments

Wharekaka-nnewsWharekaka’s big news is that we have had a positive outcome from our Ministry of Health accreditation audit to provide Hospital Level Care. We are now awaiting a DHB contract. Once we have a contract we would welcome enquiries for Hospital Level Care potential residents to join us, expanding our services to be a hub for the district’s elderly.
To make this a really successful hospital level care enterprise we have been busy fundraising and applying for grants to help fund the $200,000 needed for additional staff, equipment and building alterations.

To help with these extra costs we are setting up a Givealittle page for the community and their friends and family to be able to donate to Wharekaka’s Hospital level care project and hope that everyone will share information and access to this page through their own social network pages.

To donate to our cause go to http://givealittle.co.nz/org/wharekaka. All donations will assist in our endeavour to provide a continuum of care and stimulation for the elderly of Martinborough and surrounding areas.
There has been some recent building work completed including installing new fire doors, creating a new reception area and updating some bedrooms.

Adding to the fantastic atmosphere in our dayroom the Martinborough branch of Rural Women very kindly donated a number of chairs to the lounge area. A lovely afternoon tea was held on Sunday 7th August where these were handed over to Wharekaka.
Wharekaka is in a unique position in Martinborough in that the wider community has always been supportive and interested. Those of us involved with the Home and Villas are aware of this vital link and the need for us to be responsive to the requirements of the community. We are grateful to the various and many community organisations and local businesses who are involved with us for example Age Concern, Parkinsons exercise group and Bell Street Daycare Centre.
