A great show
The flat area at the end of Alana Estate was a perfect picnic venue for Dame Malvina Major’s Diamond Jubilee Concert.
Some of the highlights for me were Dame Malvina and Geoff Sewell singing the duet made famous by Sir Howard Morrison ‘ How Great Thou Art’.
Then the brilliant fiddler with the Hamilton Blue Grass Band, and one of my favourites: ‘Jolene’.
Hogsnort Rupert’s Band with his toe tapping ‘Aunty Alice bought us this” – Lot’s of Memories!
Also the very moving act with Geoff Sewell singing with his two very confident daughters – perhaps only ten and twelve? One daughter having almost overcome autism with music. The audience of about 1.400 were completely rapt.
And the Finale with the fabulous Royal New Zealand Airforce and Navy Bands filling the stage.

azz in Martinborough returns again in 2014 in their usual spot on the Martinborough events calendar during the first weekend of Spring,4-7 September.
“There’s a tonne of top talent, top entertainment, top sounds, top class newcomers and Rodger Fox is returning to top it all off with the hugely successful swinging tribute to Peggy Lee featuring long-term collaborator the swinging and sultry Erna Ferry,” says Music Director Ted Preston.
“It’s great that we have been able to secure this fantastic show for Martinborough. It promises to be an intimate evening celebrating the life and music of legendary vocalist, actress, songwriter and lyricist Peggy Lee. It will be ‘irrefutably hip and the very definition of cool’ as the publicity for the show goes,” adds Ted. … Continue Reading
Easter Eggs
Easter… and eggs are a traditional symbol of Easter. The empty tomb and the emergence of Christ is reflected in the chick leaving the shell as a new life emerges from the egg.
Originally hardboiled hen’s eggs were painted in bright colours and used in jolly Easter egg hunts all over the country. Later they were replaced with chocolate eggs, a good move I’d say! … Continue Reading
