Happy New Year to all gardeners out there, and those who take an interest!

Like most gardens the MCG has both benefited and suffered from the excess of rain, followed by bursts of heat. However, having trimmed ,weeded and replanted empty boxes we are back under control. The Larder has been filled with produce following a Monday harvest and we are now topping this up on a Wednesday.

Just our annual reminder…the produce in the Larder is from both the Community Garden  and the Martinborough gardeners who have surplus produce in their own gardens. This often includes seasonal fruit , as well as vegies.

Hugely successful Pro Am

It has been a busy start to the golfing calendar.  On Thursday 19th January we hosted the CER Electrical & Holmes Construction Pro Am with 41 professionals and 41 teams playing.  Six teams went out at 7.00am and the rest of the field teed off at 11.00am.  The winning Professionals were Chang Gi Lee and Charlie Smail (64) Kerry Mountcastle (65), Hyun Um Jung and Tyler Hodge (66).

The format of the competition was the best 3 stableford scores on each hole which could include the Pro.   There were some amazing prizes up for grabs with the winning team being able to enjoy rounds of golf at Cape Kidnappers plus accommodation in Havelock North. … Continue Reading

After five years of hard work by a small group of volunteers, the South Wairarapa and Carterton Districts have been formally certified as an International Dark Sky Reserve Named Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve 

The new Reserve covers an area of 3,665 square kilometres. Ideally the site is surrounded by enduring protection from significant light encroachment, with the Pacific Ocean to the east and south and the Remutaka and Tararua forest ranges to the west. 

With broad community support, it ensures the region’s dark skies would not degrade, a problem that besets some 80 percent of people worldwide. It will preserve the region’s pristine night skies for future generations. … Continue Reading
