Martinborough Kindergarten is Humming.

June 12, 2023 June 2023 Comments Off on Martinborough Kindergarten is Humming.

54 children aged from 2 years to 5 years are busily engaged at Martinborough Kindergarten with no more than 40 at each session. Kindergarten begins at 8.30am but the teachers are there at 8.00am preparing for the day.

On arrival, lunch boxes are stowed on the shelves. The children find their name tags and look for the daily question. With Whānau help, they read the question and decide which picture is the one which best illustrates the answer. Then they choose their free play activity to start the day. Engaging with others in free play helps the development of social skills, taking turns, sharing ideas, and building independence.  … Continue Reading

Welcoming Communities

June 12, 2023 June 2023 Comments Off on Welcoming Communities

With every passing season, new faces and new whānau arrive in Martinborough. Some come from over the hill, like myself, and others from further afield; all with different reasons for why we were drawn here.

Every new person and family brings something unique and valuable to the town – from new skills to new ideas – but if we never feel a part of the community, the community doesn’t benefit.

Settling into a new community, even one as beautiful as this, can be challenging. I know for myself, when I moved into the area nearly five years ago, I felt isolated at first. As the Rotary year draws to a close, the Rotary Committees responsible for considering and approving grants have been very busy with more than $27,000 having been paid out to local community and other organisations.  These grants are paid from the South Wairarapa Rotary’s Martinborough Fair Charitable Trust.

Included with these grants were some special donations made to both the Hawkes Bay and Masterton Mayoral Relief Funds, towards the recent cyclone damage sustained by Tinui and the Hawkes Bay area.  The money for this donation came from the Disaster fund that is one of the committed projects that Rotary pledges money to each year. … Continue Reading

MARTINBOROUGH WINE AND FOOD SOCIETY

June 12, 2023 June 2023 Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH WINE AND FOOD SOCIETY

We held the AGM in May at the Brac and Bow restaurant at the Royal Hotel Featherston. It was an informal affair where the excellent food wine and company was enjoyed by all.

The quality of the food and service is particularly high here. The canapes are really special, we had Pork Belly Bites, Venison Carpaccio, Pan Seared Scallops, Chicken Liver Pate and Calamari Popcorn. The mains were Jackfruit Tart, Saffron Fish, Duck or Sirloin, all with grilled greens and a royal salad. The duck was delicious and particularly well received. … Continue Reading
