AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST dairy farm is At Woolnorth in Tasmania, it covers 7,000 hectares and is stocked with 18,000 cows. Previously owned by New Zealand Company TLC Ltd in 2016 it was sold to the Chinese company Van Dairy Group for $280 million. Following the sales TLC claimed that the had been short paid by $2.2 million. The case was disputed all the way to the Australian Supreme Court where  the decision has gone against TLC.

Growing up in North Canterbury, Celia as the eldest of two children was brought up with the attitude that girls can do anything. Attending a small school at Ohoka, with a limited number of pupils, meant that everyone played in all sports teams. Celia played with the boys’ hockey and cricket teams. There were no boundaries. It wasn’t until Celia attended Intermediate in Christchurch that she discovered girls were not welcome. “It was quite a shock” says Celia. “My father had been an aircraft engineer with Air New Zealand before becoming a pilot. He encouraged us to try all sorts of things as well as teaching us to be practical. I even flew a light aircraft solo at 16.” 

RangiRuru, the secondary school Celia attended, was exceptional. A very inspiring principal encouraged the girls to aim for the best, with emphasis on leadership, sporting opportunities and academic excellence. It has been a tough time for the team at the Martinborough Health Centre and it is likely to get worse before it gets better.  

With the numbers of cases of Covid increasing daily in the community a number of changes have had to be made at the medical centre to keep the doctors and nurses well and to protect vulnerable people who could become quite ill.

As Pam Shackleton, practice manager says, “Many of us may get Omicron, but not be aware we have it as there are no symptoms. However, we can still infect others”.  

As a result, an intercom system to control the entry to the medical centre and pharmacy has been installed.
