South-Wairarapa-Rotary The first month of the new year under President Griff Page has gone past quickly, Wednesday evenings providing an escape from the winter weather and a chance to catch up with the other Rotarians over a meal. Most Wednesday evenings we meet at the Greytown Working Men’s Club and have a guest speaker along.
One of our more entertaining speakers was Mike Van Woerkom who came to speak to us about the work he does organising the Math’s Fair for a number of schools in the Wairarapa. The club has donated monies to the Math’s Fair in the past, and now Mike was bringing us up to speed with what the Fair’s are actually all about.
And bring us up to speed, he certainly did. Mike ran the club members through one of the exercises, and due to the number of years that had passed since we had been to school it wasn’t an easy task – but certainly fun. … Continue Reading

Noel-thomsa-respected-builder A married couple with the names ‘Noel and Noeline’ makes most people smile and this was a good fit as smiling and laughter were an important part of daily life for the Thomas family. Noel often said ‘If you can’t laugh every day then life is not worth living’.
Born in Martinborough in 1922 at Aylstone, (which was built by his father two years previously) Noel had one older brother, Owen.
He joined his father (and brother) in the building business ‘N.H.Thomas and Sons’ once he left school and has lived and worked in Martinborough his entire life apart from time in the Air Force during WW2, when he spent one year based in the Pacific. … Continue Reading
