Community Board Feedback
What a busy month it has been with lots of people taking time to drop in to one of our Saturday sessions or simply chatting to one of our members. Thank you to everyone for engaging with us.
We have had some lovely feedback – the new footpath on Regent street got a big thumbs up as did the park outside the Waihinga centre which is extremely well supported. (The missing piece of play equipment has been followed up on and should be pack in place in the not-too-distant future)
As a community we certainly treasure our library and are very upset when its doors are not open. There have been awful weather conditions and staffing issues that have affected their opening hours over recent months – and the Christmas holiday closure meant many people missed out on their frequent visits. We have passed this feedback on to the Library services team.
Topics have been widespread – from untidy berms and weeds through to a request for finding a piece of land suitable for a multiple use inflatable Ice Arena! If you have a couple of acres of land with easy access and not too far out of town do contact us and we will pass your details on. This ties in nicely with notes in the suggestion box at the library which were mainly young people looking for activities for them to do – not sure if we can get the MacDonalds or night club ideas up and running sorry guys but if someone out there is keen to work with youth focused activities we would love to know.
Cycling and walkways is a topic that crops up regularly – The Five Towns Trails document has some amazing ideas for what this could look like in our region, and you can check this out on line. fivetownstrail.co.nz
Accessibility for those in town with disability scooters was brought to our attention and a challenge put out there for an elected member to take one for a spin – we were hoping to do this last week but the adverse weather prevented this from happening. Hoping to report back on this next month.
Resilience is an important topic especially with the impact of the recent weather event – the community board had a short introduction from WREMO (Wellington Region Emergency Management Office) – there will be more to come on this topic, we will be looking at providing a community workshop. The importance of knowing our neighbours in times of need is essential. The Month of March celebrates Neighbours Day Aotearoa so reach out to your neighbours neighboursaotearoa.nz
You can find out more about what we get up to by checking out the minutes or coming along to sit in on one of our 6 weekly meetings. (meetings are also recorded to view on line) Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 23rd March in the Supper Room at 7pm.
