Conversations with winemakers

August 11, 2014 August 2014 No Comments

The final and third session of the annual “Conversations with Winemakers” series was held at Martinborough Wine Centre on Saturday, hosted by Lance Redgwell of Cambridge Wines and Wilco Lam of Dry River, who talked passionately about the lesser- known wine varieties grown in Martinborough.

The first session was a blind-tasting of twelve Pinot Noirs from the various sub regions of Martinborough, presented by Carl Fraser of Murdoch James and Katherine Jacobs of Big Sky Wines.

For the second session, Strat Canning of Margrain and Nigel Elder of The Elder Pinot walked participants through a comparison of twelve interesting Martinborough white varieties.

For each session, The Village Cafe provided finger food to complement each flight of wine.

All three sessions were sold out and participant response was incredibly positive. Ineke Kershaw attended the third session and “found the evening most entertaining, listening to the winemakers talking so passionately about their craft”.

The Conversations series provides a great opportunity to hear local winemakers talk about the wines they make and why they are so special,” said Jane Cooke of Wines from Martinborough.
