Cross Creek Blues Club

April 20, 2015 April 2015 No Comments

Cross-Creek-Blues-Club In March we were privileged to have Wairarapa blues legends, Pat McKenna and Mike Dew along with Masterton newcomer Paul Mason and from over the hill, the Wheelhouse Blues Band supporting Bob Cooper-Grundy performing “The Story of the Blues” – the history of the Blues in America, with Kate Marshall.  As always they were inspiring and delivered 120%. There is still more to come in that particular story!

Although not a hard out Blues Band, Wheelhouse Blues have a great sound and terrific stage presence.  Arthur’s version of “Walking in Memphis” was memorable and his voice was a brilliant contrast to Bronwen’s lighter style. Arie (Schumann Akademie, Utrecht) on Double Bass, Mike (UK) on Lead Guitar and Jason on Drums provided a stylish instrumental backing for the band. www.wheelhouseband.co.nz   Wheelhouse Blues Band will play at the Tin Hut again on Sunday 3rd May 12 – 2pm.
Our guests on 1 April were Clare Christian, son Gabe on trumpet and multi instrumentalist Joe Callwood. This is a high quality combination not to be missed!  See Clare and all our guests on:crosscreekblues.org/ You Tube link.

The names Albert King, Junior Wells, Robert Cray, John Hammond Jnr, Canned Heat, Duke Robilard practically form the basis of the Blues as we know it today. Between 1992 and 2006, Shayn Wills played support for all of these legendary and innovative musicians. “Hurricane” Shayn Wills http://www.youtube.com/shaynmo will be our featured guest in May.
