Daisy and Noeline Honoured by NZ Red Cross
Martinborough seems to attract people to lengthy service for good causes and charities. Earlier this year two local women were presented with awards for half a century of voluntary work, and last month Daisy Aldridge and Noeline Bain were honoured in a similar way. As President Brian Love expressed it, “little old Martinborough – if you put all your years together it’s a very impressive number and you’ve both been very staunch”.
Daisy has given 40 years of service to the Red Cross and only finished delivering Meals on Wheels at the end of last year. She says she “thoroughly enjoyed it” and used to “pop in and visit people who were on their own”. Noeline has been active in the organisation for 30 years, and also worked with Meals on Wheels. She says that “meeting people in their homes and finding out that what they really wanted was a good chat” was very rewarding, but “ït could take a while to get round”.
For both women, friendship and fellowship were the most valued aspects of work with the Red Cross and, of course, making a difference.
