DELIGHTFUL CONCERT TO COMPLETE MARTINBOROUGH’S MUSICAL YEAR
On Sunday 21st December at 2.30pm, members of the Verner family of Whitby are treating our town with a special concert in St Andrews Church, in support of the second youngest, Aziel, who is now just 18 years old. This remarkable young man is presently based in Sydney finishing his schooling, studying violin and making plans to apply to the famed New York Juillard School of Music.
Appearing with him will be brother Asaph who will play the church’s organ (played as piano) and sister Amanda, currently one of the viola players with the Sydney Symphony. Her partner, Ike See, is a violinist with Australia Chamber Orchestra, and along with Azarah (also to play her violin) will join them. Azarah at fifteen, is the youngest of this talented family.
Aziel has already achieved many musical honours, including selection for the first Verbier Music Camp in Switzerland last year. He was here in Martinborough way back in 2007 with the Wellington Youth Orchestra – people may remember this vibrant twelve year old playing in the second violin section. Brother Asaph, then fourteen, was there also. And last summer, Aziel and Asaph played at the Dame Malvina Major Concert held at the Cabbage Tree Vineyard.
This month’s concert programme, especially selected by the performers, promises to appeal to all the audience. Included in the works will be favourites composed by Bach, Paganini and Dvorak, plus the Adagio from Max Bruch’s glorious first Violin Concerto.
St Andrews Church will be a superb venue for this very special summer afternoon concert. There will also be light refreshments to follow.
