First Council meeting –Pam Colenso

November 18, 2016 November 2016 No Comments

first-council-meetingThis is my first article as a newly elected Councillor and before I start I would like to thank everyone who supported me in the election campaign, it was really fantastic to have your support/assistance/ear during this time. Also to everyone taking the time to vote, it was very humbling, overwhelming and exciting to be elected, thank you all so very much. It was really pleasing to see that South Wairarapa voting turnout was just over 56%.
On the 19th October, we were all sworn in at the first meeting of the Triennium, we each had to take the oath and then afterwards there was morning tea to be shared with family who were there to watch. It was then on to the official business of the day. This concluded at lunch time and then official photographs were taken.

This was followed in the afternoon with a workshop to start to bring us all up to speed, with presentations by Paul Crimp (CEO), Mark Ellingham (Group Manager Infrastructure and Services, Murray Buchanan (Planning and Environment Group Manager). I will confess, it is a lot to take in.
Congratulations to Viv Napier, Mayor; Brian Jephson, Deputy Mayor and my fellow Councillors – I look forward to working with you all and making this the best Council and District in New Zealand.
Pip and I have been appointed as the Martinborough Community Board Councillor representatives and we had our first meeting on the 20th.
Lisa Cornelissen, Vicky Read and Fiona Beattie were sworn in and Lisa has been elected Chair and Vicky Deputy Chair. It is lovely to see such a dynamic team being re-elected and we wish them well for this Triennium.
If you have anything you wish to bring to the Council table, or issues you feel you would like to discuss further, then please feel free to contact me.
