Golf Club news

September 12, 2022 September 2022, Sports No Comments

There hasn’t been a lot of golf played over the last month and a number of members have mentioned how they have never seen the course so wet.  Hopefully with the onset of Spring it will dry out and we can all get back into playing regularly.

A couple of weeks ago the Marquis Shield team played their final round of the year at Pahiatua and came away with the Marquis Shield, the Sutherland Trophy and the Marquis Cup – rumour has it that there were copious amounts of beer drunk afterwards and it was a good job someone had the foresight  to organise a bus!!!

Not many results from the last few weeks however winning Grumpies have been Bill Gordon, Andy Morison and Brent McKinlay.  Not too many twos have been had, only Bill Gordon, Tony Taylor and Arthur Warren.

The Ladies have had to miss out on playing a couple of Wednesdays but winners have been Sandra Petersen, Julie Weber and Honor Clark.  Twos have gone to Julie Weber, Carol Parkinson and Adele Cairns.

9 hole winners have been Sherryl Howie and Jenny Joblin.

Thursday Club has also been affected but winners have been Tony Taylor, Chris Ranish and Bill Gordon.  Twos have gone to Chris Ranish (3), Rob Smith, Darren Bevan, Nick Allen, Matt Thomas, Sandra Petersen, Bevan Sweeney, Tora Boyne, Tony Taylor, Shane Hislop and Stu Taplin.

Weekend winners have been Chris Ranish, Tora Boyne, Phil Collins, Malcolm Wood, Derek Stephens and Josh Hawkins (twice).  Twos have gone to Malcolm Wood (3), Phil Eberlein (2), Doug Clark, Emily Loughnan, Derek Stephens, Steven Croft, Ed Brown and Jason Burt who recently won the Birds Nest.

On 16th September we are hosting the Martinborough School 150th Year Celebration Ambrose – entries can be sent to Viv Malneek at vrmalneek@gmail.com and then click on the link https://martinborough-school-150th-year-celebration.lilregie.com/booking/attendees/new to find payment details.

On Sunday 25th September we have the AB Martin Mixed 4Somes (18 holes) and entries for this can be sent to the office:  entries@martinboroughgolfclub.co.nz.

That’s all for now – hopefully we will manage to get more golf in over the next month (weather permitting).
