Greetings from Netherlands

September 8, 2014 September 2014 No Comments

Greetings-from-Netherlands In 1964 a Dutch firm by the name of Costain Blankvood in conjunction with
Parsons Contracting were assigned the huge task of constructing the new waterway between Lake Ferry and the Ruamahanga River below where it entered Lake Wairarapa. Co was an engineer for Costain Blankvoord and so with his family of 2 boys and twin girls packed up and left to work in NZ for what was to be a four year project. They shifted in to a house on the corner of Regent and Oxford St’s. neighbours to us and made many friends in the town and surrounding area, including many well known Dutch family’s.
The contract ended in May 1968, and as young as we were Tony and I had became  lifetime friends and it was such a treat to be able to finally go to the Netherlands and see him and the family in there beautiful country , and beautiful town of Wilnis with its canals, trees and gardens. Co and Jo hoped to get back to NZ with a further contact, but it fell through, and Jo continued to work for Costain Blankvoord and settled in The Netherlands where they had one more son..
They returned for a trip in 2006 and Tony has also been back twice to the country they fell in love with. They now live a very happy retirement in there Wilnis home and Tony is a respected draftsman in an engineering firm.
