Great celebrations at the library. We now have a lovely big purple thing behind the counter! Yes another shelf unit – those lovely MenzShed men have done it again. They have made a lovely big shelf unit with the donated purple paint to match the ones in the back room. Thank you so much guys. We are now organised, can you believe it, after 3 years.
NZ Book Awards and Hell Pizza Reading Competition has started. It goes until December so there is plenty of time. Read a book, get the pizza wheel card stamped by us and after 7 book stamps Hell Pizza swap the wheel for a pizza – only for children though! Come and see Janet for a wheel.
Once again thanks everyone for the donations of books, games, DVDs, coloured pencils and all the many shoe related articles – these are all much appreciated.

On the new book front, it’s a quiet time for new books at the moment but we have a few new crime authors coming in: Luke Delaney, Lawrence Osborne, Sam Baker, Jesper Bugge Kold and Bill Robertson. Also some new Australian outback authors. I have also got most of the long-list for the Man Booker and so far they are a good read.
Our biography section is very large now as all the books from storage have come back in, so there are some under the shelves (just ask if you can’t reach them) and there is another little shelving unit set up for NZ biographies too. There are such great books in this section that I cannot get rid of any! In fact there are a number of new ones as well.
We have started collecting for the First Church Book Fair – see the bin as you come in the library.
Our revamped Te Reo Book Babies Waiata style has taken off. Running at 10 each Tuesday morning in term time we have had about 8-10 children each time enjoying singing about the Taniwha and hearing bi-lingual stories. Such lucky children growing up with two languages. Thanks to Rita B for running this for us.
Our library Banagrams meet has started, 10am on a Thursday morning. For those of you who love playing around with words it’s the place to be. That’s all for now. See you all soon.
