Strategic Grants
One of our most enjoyable roles is providing grant funding to local community organisations. Grants are considered twice yearly against our criteria which can be found at www.swdc.govt.nz/MCB. These criteria have recently been updated in line with our three year plan, with the next round of funding applications closing on 30th April for consideration at our meeting on the 29th May 2017.
Over the last triennium we have supported communities across the Martinborough Ward including a defibrillator for Tora, maintenance of the flag pole at Lake Ferry and a contribution to replacing the septic tank and lines at Pirinoa Hall.
We have provided funding to sporting organisations for uniform purchases, court resurfacing, equipment purchases and transport to away games. Pirinoa Primary, Martinborough Rugby Club, Martinborough Small Bore Rifle Club, Martinborough Hockey Club and the Southern Junior Netball Club all benefitted from grants during the last triennium.

Youth and educational initiatives have also made successful grant applications; we support Mathematics Wairarapa’s to run the annual Maths Week competition, we have funded Martinborough School to take part in the Arrow FM “Live Wires Radio” programme and provided funding to enable the Life Education Trust to visit local schools. We are keen to receive more applications for funding for youth initiatives.
It is always particularly rewarding to be able to help those who are in turn helping our community. Examples include our support of the Martinborough Men’s Shed to refurbish the old Court House and the Martinborough Community Patrol towards their purchase of a dedicated vehicle.
Successful grant applications have ranged from $200 to over $2,000. We have an available grant pool for our next round of over $7,000. If you think you may be eligible for funding and would like some more information please get in touch: martinboroughlisa@cornelissen.co.nz.
