Martinborough Community Choir update:

May 12, 2015 May 2015 No Comments

Martinborough-Community-Choir Our choir has now been going for over two years, and is becoming something of a local institution!

This year started with a great first rehearsal taken by a guest choir leader, Brendan Taaffe, an excellent song leader from the USA, and a very nice guy.

Two weeks later we had our first mini-concert of the year, at the Greytown Arts Festival on Valentine’s Day.

This month we have an ‘open rehearsal’ at St. Andrew’s Church Hall on Tuesday evening, May 12, starting at 7.15pm, prior to a short performance in the Wairarapa Vocal Spectacular’ at Wairarapa College on Friday May 15. The Vocal Spectacular is mainly for local student choirs, to give them an opportunity to perform for a large audience before the annual ‘Big Sing’ competition. We were pleased to have been invited in 2014, when our choir was very well received, so we’re looking forward to performing there again this year.

In June we’ve been invited to sing again at the Olive Harvest Festival Night Market; and we’ve been invited to sing in the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington on August 29, a one of the guest choirs invited by the Wellington Community Choir to participate in their tenth anniversary celebration concert.
We’ve recently had an invitation to appear again at ‘Jazz In Martinborough’ on Sunday Sept 6, so watch this space for further details.

Meanwhile we’re enjoying our weekly Tuesday evening practices, and the choir is improving and growing, and hopefully having fun as well!
If anyone is interested in joining us, please come along to our open rehearsal, and/or contact me. We’re an all-comers unauditioned choir, a mix of music readers and non-readers, people of all ages and abilities are welcome!
