Martinborough Golf Club Hosts National Women’s Tournament

April 18, 2016 April 2016 No Comments

M'B-golf-club Undoubtedly, the highlight for March was Martin boroughs’ hosting on the 2016 New Zealand Women’s Autumn Foursomes Tournament from Tuesday 22 to Thursday 24 March. This is an annual national event sanctioned by NZ Golf. The winners of the 80th Championship were the dynamic duo from Boulcott Heritage Farm, Janet Hunter and Jill Timmins. The pair was formidable throughout the week, unbeaten over six rounds of foursomes match play. In the final they beat Waikato pair, Ro Thomas and Liz Purcell (Hamilton GC).

Fourteen of our women members joined 86 others from around the country. The best of our Martinborough gals were beaten semi-finalists Sylvia Beavis and Gretel Dick, and Diana Donald and Jenny Wilkie who won the flight in the NZLGU Salver.
The visitors were highly complementary of our friendly Club and favourably commented on the high standard of cuisine on offer all week, thanks to Providore. The event moves to Harewood in Christchurch next year. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and local sponsors for the event.

The fine weather has ensured that all our competition days have continued to be well supported, with large numbers attending the “Grumpies” on Tuesdays, Ladies Day on Wednesdays, Thursday Club, and Saturday and Sunday competitions.
