Midsummer Music in February

February 9, 2016 February 2016 No Comments

Midsummer Music continues in Martinborough at Brodie Estate through February. Enjoy great music with a glass of wine, a savoury platter, a gelato from Its Quite Cool. Saturday afternoons from 3.00 pm to 5.00pm. Some covered seating available.

Tessa Quayle is here on February 13. This gifted jazz singer brings a unique and personalized approach to the music accompanied by key board, double bass and drums. Her voice has been described as having a “milky sparkle” as she “scats and purrs” her own unique flavour. Tessa has performed extensively throughout New Zealand including Jazz in Martinborough. People love her performances.

The Amici Ensemble concludes the series with a concert featuring string sextets by Brahms and Strauss , the Boccherini “Fandango” and a new work “Ants” by Anthony Ritchie. Strauss wrote his sextet as the overture for his opera, “Capriccio”. It is one of his most sumptuous and romantic pieces for strings. The Boccherini, originally for guitar and strings, will be played by string quintet. It is a frenetic dance movement that will certainly liven the spirit! The Ensemble was formed in 1988 and is led by NZSO Associate Concertmaster Donald Armstrong. The performers are principal players with the NZ Symphony Orchestra and leading chamber musicians on the New Zealand music scene.

These ticketed events alternate with free entry gigs that include The Gypsy Jam Trio who were so marvellously enjoyed at the Martinborough Jazz Festival and Sounds Familiar whose Dulcet tones are heard during the Martinborough Fairs.

Tickets are available from www.brodieestate.co.nz, the Wine Merchant and Green Jersey Cycle Tours or at the Cellar Door on the day.
