The 2nd of July, 2014 saw members of South Wairarapa Rotary gathered at the Royal Hotel in Featherston for the annual changing of the guard, or the handing over of the chains of office to the new President. John Bushell, having served 12 months as President of the club, handed over the responsibility to Griff Page who will be President for the next 12 months.

The evening started with a number of items sung by the Featherston Men’s Singers including a rousing rendition of “Click go the shears boys” when most of the attendees joined in. Several awards were presented including the inaugural recipient of the Ulli Scholarship in memory of Ulli Reinartz, a past member of the club who passed away last year, this was presented to a very appreciative Thomas Pepper.
Griff had the pleasure of wearing two hats in the biggest presentation of the night. As convenor of the Martinborough Fair he presented South Wairarapa Rotary with a cheque for $89,000 receiving it on behalf of the club with his President hat on – a man of many hats one would say.

Also announced was a new fund raiser that will bring in additional funds to be returned to the community. The annual Martinborough Charity Fun Ride, a road cycle race/ride will now be run in conjunction with South Wairarapa Rotary every November.

A great night was had by all, The Royal Hotel was a great host, and the club continues to be led by able members of the South Wairarapa Community.
