South Wairarapa Tramping Club

April 20, 2015 April 2015 No Comments

Some members of the tramping club have just had a brain storming session to plan ahead for the next six months as to what tramps will be run . Rather than operating on the basis of asking members to offer to run a tramp that they were familiar with, it was decided to agree the activities ahead and then have members put their name forward to be the trip co-ordinator. This has worked well for the last six months. Another task being undertaken is the creation of a data base of tramping trips and trails covering as much of the lower North Island as we can manage to reach for both overnight and day sorties.

If you are a landowner reading this and have an area either within your ownership or nearby and think it would be suitable for creating a walking trip, please let us know and we would be keen to discuss this with you.

Our first trip in April is on Saturday 4th being a day trip from Putara road to Conical Knob. This will involve going over some farm land into bush and on up to tops. A medium graded trip. The co-ordinator is John Rhodes – Ph No 06 3049 095
On Saturday the 11th Ed and Juliet Cooke will be taking a trip to Pinnacle Ridge , the approach route still being worked on but maybe via Atiwhakatu hut. This will involve some ups and down so requires a degree of fitness . Phone 06 3049 497 to express your interest to participate.

A slightly less challenging but no less interesting tramp is planned for Saturday 18th April. John Rhodes has had an affinity with a route from Bucks Road to Mt Finnis. The route needs some change and a purpose of the trip is to explore one area to see how it can be re- routed. In good weather there are views out over the plains. If you haven’t been to Mt Finnis it is well worth the effort so come along. John will be happy to hear from you , his Ph. No. being above.

Lastly for the month, on the 25th a departure from walking. Ian and Rosie Montgomerie are to take a cycle trip around the Wellington Bays. To book in ring 06 3049 252.
Note that new members are always welcome and you can try out a trip or two to see if it suits you.
