There was a Party in Marty

August 12, 2013 August 2013, Sports No Comments

DSC_2361Martinborough Senior Reserves have worked hard this season to due reward. After finishing 4th in the final round to make the playoffs, Marty knocked over #1 seeds Tuhirangi 25-19 in the Semi finals to make it on the park for the finals. The Final was against Masterton Red Star who had beaten Marty twice this season. The first 20 odd minutes of the final was hard slog with a big arm wrestle for territory and possession, but Marty applied pressure in good set play and got the ball out the back line to the speedy men to score 2 tries before half time. Marty got a try early in the second half, but took the foot off for 10 mins and let the Stars in with 2 quick tries. Marty scored again and held out Stars 24-12 to win. Going into the final as under dogs suited the boys as it gave them more incentive to win, also it was a very special club day as it was coincidently ‘Mooses’ birthday, you could definitely feel his presence amongst the guys on the paddock. Saturday showed that Martinborough Rugby brings out the best in the community and feels like its all just one happy family, the supporters came to the final in their droves with 2 supporters buses and numerous car loads of fans. Running a club is bloody hard work but days like Saturday make it well worth it!!!
