Waihinga Centre Turf Turning

September 21, 2016 September 2016 No Comments

10th September 2016, from midday outside the Martinborough Town Hall on Texas Street.
Formal Blessing, Turf Turning, Hula Hooping, Live Music, Sausage Sizzle and Prizes
The blessing and turf turning will formally mark the start of the construction phase of the Waihinga Centre project and will be followed by some fun activities for all ages.
Lucy Cooper from Coops Hoops will be bringing her unique brand of energy and enthusiasm to teach a mass hooping event. There are prizes to be won including a tablet, Wellington accommodation, Toast Martinborough tickets, Circus Cinema tickets and a wine selection.
The younger children can take part in their own bark turning – with lucky dip prizes available.
Jazz in Martinborough will be presenting Kate & Bob to provide the musical entertainment. Kate Marshall and Bob Cooper-Grundy are exceptional musicians and long-time friends and supporters of Jazz in Martinborough.
The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have volunteered their time and expertise, prizes and more. Special thanks to Dusty and Lulu for their design work.

Supporter Profile: Di and John Martin
“Old John Martin loved projects and would be thrilled with the Waihinga development”, says Di Martin, speaking of her husband John’s Great Grandfather and founder of Martinborough back in the 1880s.
“We need to keep moving forward for Martinborough to thrive and we’re very lucky that our small village has a community that is so passionate, so involved and so keen to make it happen.” That’s why John and I were also happy to support the project.
For Di and John bringing amenities like the library and information centre together makes excellent sense and will create a vibrant new area on that side of The Square. They believe the project will not only enhance Martinborough but also add to the region’s attractiveness as a place to visit and to live. “All our towns benefit from any new initiatives in the district.”
