Wharekaka Fun

June 12, 2014 June 2014 No Comments

Wharekaka-funThe pitter-patter of little feet could be heard down the hallways of Wharekaka this month when the lovely children from D.O.T Kids Early Learning Centre came and performed a variety of songs for our residents. Afterwards they stayed to meet our fish and have some morning tea. The visit was such a success we have decided to make it a monthly event so thank you DOT Kids we can’t wait to see you next time!

Pirinoa school students also kindly made us a part of their book week by coming in and reading us some of their favourite stories. All of the children read beautifully and we enjoyed their enthusiasm and smiling faces.
We also had some four legged visitors to Wharekaka this month. Wairarapa SPCA manager Lloyd Warren brought his own dog King and soon to be adopted dog Topsy in to meet us. Many of our residents are animal lovers and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to have a pat and a cuddle with these lovely dogs.

Our thanks go to Tora local Chris Bargh who was our speaker this month and also Don Tayles who provided our musical entertainment when he came to play his accordion.

In the men’s shed we have been busy making birdhouses. This has highlighted our lack of small hand tools (hammers, saws, hand drills etc.). If anyone in the community has any unwanted or unused tools lying around in their sheds that could use a new home please feel free to drop them in to Wharekaka. They would be much appreciated.
Once again we thank the community for all their support and invite local people or groups that might be interested in sharing their skills or talents to contact our Activities Coordinator Jemma on 06) 3069 701.

Auxiliary News
Activities organized by the Auxiliary for the residents are now moving inside with the onset of winter. A lovely morning was held at the home of David and Carol Major in Greytown with morning tea and a sing song.
Our next event is a mini ‘Antiques Road Show’ on Tuesday 10 June. If any older Martinborough residents would like to join us, please contact our Activities Coordinator on 306 9701. We would love to see you with one of your antiques.

The Auxiliary AGM takes place in June. If anyone would like to attend and participate, please contact Helen Meehan on 306 9074.
