WHAREKAKA NEWS

February 16, 2017 February 2017 No Comments

Wharekaka-newsThe New Year is now underway with the last month of 2016 being a very active one here at Wharekaka. I am sure that by Christmas day everyone must have been quite exhausted.
We started with a lovely performance by Whaiora Choir. They were very engaging with the residents and it was a really enjoyable afternoon.

We had a great end of year morning with our new entrance students who sang to us, they will be back to join us again once school is underway.
Naomi, one of our senior carers, put on a wonderful Christmas afternoon tea at her place.
Rotary come and we participated in singing Christmas Carols with them.
Residents, Pat Hill and Joyce Hogg joined in with the Christmas parade. What a beautiful warm day.

Gladys Stevens 100th birthday was a real success. The lounge was filled with many visitors including the Mayor, Board members and Auxiliary, and the Bell Street early learners singing Happy Birthday was a highlight. Gladys enjoyed getting her cards from the Queen and Prime Minister as well as many other local and international well-wishers.
Our Christmas lunch saw a good turnout and the residents loved the entertainment from Martin Lawrence.

We would like to extend a big thankyou to all who have donated goods and time to Wharekaka. Without your support we wouldn’t be able offer all we can. This is what being a community facility is all about.
