Womens Institute
‘Nurturing the Nation’ and ‘Adopt a Has Been’ have been the Womens’ Institute themes for 2016.Federations were encouraged to fund raise to provide seating benches to commemorate 95 years of Womens Institute in New Zealand.
Martinborough members chose not to fund raise for a bench as the town has a number of seating benches. Instead had David Richardson make a stand for a plaque to be placed by the Golden Elm tree which was planted by members in Considene Park in 1988
Martinborough’s Institute first chose the Play centre to adopt but were unable to make contact as to how to give them some sort of assistance. The second choice was the Fred Hollow’s Foundation for the Blind.
The local Institute in now in it’s 87th year and encouraging new members. Should any resident wish to be with a jolly bunch for a social afternoon where the organisation focuses on homemaking skills, do come on the first Thursday of the month at 1.30 in the Fire Station social room. You will be warmly welcomed.
Noelene White secretary.
