The Museum Says Thank You
Martinborough’s museum doesn’t charge admission, so it can stay accessible to everyone. Instead we rely on donations or koha from visitors and the generosity of the community.
We’d like to use our column this month to say thank you to those who have gifted to the museum recently:
Esther Street Residents: $253 from their mid-winter dinner. Money will be used to create a new heritage letterbox, designed as a replica of the museum building.
Hugh Hunter: Wairapara Branch History of The Vintage Car Club, First 50 years.
Mike Honey: $200 for kowhai trees for the new heritage garden on the south side of the building (this is money is from Mike’s remuneration as a Community Board member)
Thelma Feist via Joyce Hogg: a floral tapestry in a circular kauri frame made by Thelma’s great grandmotherhere in Martinborough, at least a 100 years ago.
Vicki jones: original sheet music composed by E E Martin, titled the Vally Waltz and the Wairarapa Waltz.
Down to Earth Garden Group: $250 for the new heritage garden.
Martinborough Lions: $500 to pay for the digitization of the TVNZ documentary on the re-enactment of the original 1843 stock drive around the coast to the Wairarapa.
First Church: Heritage books about the district, from their recent Monster Book Fair.
