A New Owner for our Martinborough Bookshop

August 2, 2022 August 2022 No Comments

Deborah Coddington has passed the baton to Brenda Gale, who is the new owner of the Martinborough Bookshop.

“I have always loved books” says Brenda. “They are definitely a source of delight for me. When I was only seventeen I worked for one and a half years in the London Bookshop. Secretly I have always wanted a bookshop so when Deborah asked whether I would like to buy the Martinborough Bookshop I leapt at the chance. I have worked for Deborah for three years and have really appreciated her talents, enthusiasm, and creativity. We share a joy of reading.

What is my favourite book of all time? The Wizard of Oz. I read it when I was a child and have read it again several times. Each time I find something new to relish and enjoy.

And then there is nothing better than a really good, well written crime thriller.

As for children’s books, my favourite is “I’ll take you to Mrs Cole.” written by Nigel Grey and Michael Foreman. A young boy’s mother, who is a solo parent threatens him with Mrs Cole, if he has not done all of his chores. Mrs Cole lives on her own in an exceptionally large decrepit mansion down the road. Then one day when the list of chores becomes too much, the boy goes down the road and Mrs Cole invites him in. It is an enchanting and unexpected story.

And if you are short of ideas, each week on Access Radio Brenda reviews one of the latest books.

The bookshop will now be open every day of the week.
