Calling all bagpipe players

June 9, 2021 June 2021 No Comments

The call is out to South Wairarapa bagpipe players: would you like to join a group of recreational pipers? Such a group is busy forming with currently five pipers and a drummer, they invite other pipers and drummers past and present to join them.

A member of the group, Gordon McIntyre, explains that this is a purely social group getting together to enjoy playing popular music. There  will be competitive piping and initially no membership fees. Some members will also be offering tuition to anybody interested trying out the skill.

They intend to be part of the community and will be happy play for fundraisers, at other community activities, or to entertain at rest homes etc.

Gordon will also be organising a Ceilidh (a Gaelic gathering for music, songs and stories) complete with haggis.

“We want to put back into the community, not take out of it” said Gordon. They plan to introduce themselves with a public playings in Martinborough, Greytown and Featherston
