The Fenwick Family – 30 Years in Business and Going Strong

April 20, 2015 April 2015 Comments Off on The Fenwick Family – 30 Years in Business and Going Strong

Fenwick-family Eva and Colin Fenwick are not the sort of people to parade their success, but are quietly proud of achieving 30 years in business. Martinborough Automotive operates today in the same Kitchener Street premises that it has occupied since the Fenwick’s bought the business from Bruce Palenski in late 1984. Initially they were in a partnership, but later the Fenwicks took the business over completely, also buying the previously leased land and buildings. They decided at that point to open all weekend, the only service station in town to do so. The workshop also operated at weekends, and all those extra hours helped the business prosper. … Continue Reading

Fire Brigade

April 20, 2015 April 2015, Regular Features Comments Off on Fire Brigade

Fire-Brigade Our greatest fear this summer was that the extremely dry conditions combined with an accidental spark igniting vegetation would result in a major fire event. There were 10 reported vegetation fires this season but we were fortunate only three became quite large. None of these resulted in loss of structures and all were contained within their location of origin. Several Wairarapa brigades and helicopters were responded to assist the Rural Fire Service control the fires. Given the potential for major incidents during the dry season, we appreciate the care and vigilance taken by the public during this period. … Continue Reading

From the mayor

April 20, 2015 April 2015, Regular Features Comments Off on From the mayor

From-the-Mayor I recently had the pleasure of presenting the prizes at the Martinborough Village Summer Pix competition.  This wonderful idea was the brainchild of Trish Higginson who had seen similar photography competitions in other parts of New Zealand.  The criteria were simply Martinborough and/or surrounds with a summer vibe.
The result was two hundred and forty fabulous photos showcasing our wonderful district.  Entries came from all over, including overseas, and had the four judges deliberating for hours trying to choose a winner.
This is just another example of Martinborough stepping up and being proud of being what it is – a great place to live, work and play.
A big thanks must go to Trish for coming up with the idea and also to all those that supported the project.  This includes the helpers, judges and our very generous businesses who donated all the wonderful prizes.  Well done Martinborough.

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
