Know-your-Firefighters Meet our newest fully qualified firefighter, Justin Hudepohl. Having successfully completed the week long basic training course in Rotorua, Justin is certified to put on breathing apparatus and enter burning structures with an experienced partner. He is an enthusiastic member of the brigade, already asking for more advanced training.
Justin’s decision to join the Brigade came with the support of his wife Tamara and 8 year old daughter Bailey. The commitment to train and respond to alarms at all hours means family backing is so important. His dad, Barry is proud of his son, giving him this quite wise advice; “don’t do anything silly”. … Continue Reading

Library News

April 20, 2015 April 2015, Regular Features Comments Off on Library News

Library-newsCoffee, shoes, books – we need all of these before opening the library door in the morning.  I suppose the books are the most important as we are a library but the other two rate rather highly as well.  As I write this I am yearning for a coffee but Mike is waiting for this article as the deadline is 5 minutes away  (sigh).

So, for you avid readers, please do look at our Staff Favourites display table as you enter the library.  These books are loved by at least one of our librarians and it is a great opportunity for you to extend your reading experience into unknown territory and perhaps find new favourite authors yourself.  To encourage you we are not charging a rental fee for any book on the table.

If you do like FREEBIES then please check out our Facebook page.  If you ‘Like’ what you see then let us know and you will receive a FREE DVD hire.  If you weren’t aware we have DVDs then hop in and check out the vast range for adults and children that have recently been added to the library. … Continue Reading

Light hearted Golfing

A good sense of humour was required when the Chronicle’s golfing reporter in the 1990s let loose. And the club members lapped it up. His report (Under the cunning pseudonym of ‘The Slicer”) for June 21st 1991:

‘Some great scoring was played during the weekend .Ted Peacock cemented his place in the Marquis team with a brilliant 8 up. Great play Ted, but give us a smile now and then.

You know, JF. 48 points amazing but true. Now his smile was so big that two steaks wouldn’t have touched the sides of his mouth. Drapes was so impressed by the old fella’s performance that he was named as reserve for the seniors. … Continue Reading

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1.
