Everybody’s Broken

December 14, 2016 December 2016 Comments Off on Everybody’s Broken

BY JOHN ANSELL

Everybody’s right

And everybody’s wrong

Everybody’s weak

And everybody’s strong

Everybody’s trying

And everybody fails

And everybody’s carriage

Will at some time leave the rails

Everybody’s crying

And everybody grieves

And everybody’s wearing

Their psychoses on their sleeves … Continue Reading

Forty years service to Martinborough

December 14, 2016 December 2016 Comments Off on Forty years service to Martinborough

forty-years-serviceLiz Hancock has announced her retirement from South Wairarapa Veterinary Services 40 years after her graduation as veterinarian.
Liz moved to Martinborough in 1978 from Canterbury to work at the Martinborough clinic with Ivan Ward when it was Martinborough Veterinary Services. Whilst maintaining her veterinary career here, Liz married John and raised her children in Martinborough on their farm out at Hinakura, and has made significant contributions to the district and to the SWVS practice.
Liz has had a varied and fulfilling veterinary career in Martinborough and throughout the Wairarapa. Her breadth of experience throughout the Wairarapa and knowledge of the region will be missed.
Liz has thoroughly enjoyed her relationships with her clients and their animals be it large or small, something she will miss greatly. With Liz’s involvement in the community, we will still see plenty of her, as we are sure she will remain very busy in her many pursuits outside of vetting.
The team at SWVS wishes Liz all the best in her future endeavours.

From the Mayor

December 14, 2016 December 2016 Comments Off on From the Mayor

I can’t believe we are now in December; the last two months have flown by. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Enjoy your family festivities, have fun and be safe. I would like to thank past and present councillors, community board members and council staff for the work you have done for our community and district over the past year. I would also like to thank all the community organisations and groups who make South Wairarapa a wonderful place to live.
Recently we were all reminded that the unexpected can happen. Please make sure you have your family emergency plan organised and food and water for at least three days. You can contact a community board member if you need help with your plan; contact details for them are on the SWDC web site. Please remember to contact and check on neighbours especially those who are elderly or with disabilities.
Coastal areas also needed to consider the possible Tsunami threat. If you live at the coast or are visiting the coast please remember that if the earthquake is ’Long and Strong, Be Gone’. Move to higher ground until the Tsunami or the alert has passed. Use this advice As well as getting updates from telephone contact and media. … Continue Reading

Bureaucratic gobbledegook

December 14, 2016 December 2016 Comments Off on Bureaucratic gobbledegook

Recently an advert posted by the Parliamentary Service appeared in the Newspapers. The Service was advertising for each of the following:

• An Organisational Development Manager to join the People and Culture Leadership team
• A Senior Organisational Development Advisor
• A Senior Learning and Development Advisor to build people and organisational capability
• A Talent Manager for the People and Culture Leadership team
• A People and Culture Services Manager.

Peter Dunn MP commented that it sounded like Bureaucratic gobbledegook to him. He’s not wrong, the jobs may be justified, but the titles are completely meaningless. It’s like the school that called their receptionist the director of first impressions.
Can you work out what these jobs actually do? Probably a Talent Manager is an HR Manager. Maybe Senior Learning and Development Advisor is what they now call library staff?
An Organisational Development Manager and Senior Advisor I can’t even guess at. And the thought of a People and Culture Services Manager ?
