Statistics released by New Zealand’s Commercial Accommodation Monitor (CAM) showed February 2016 was the busiest month on record in the Wairarapa
“New Zealand has seen tremendous growth in visitor arrivals and the Wairarapa’s growth over summer has exceeded the national increase in guest arrivals and nights” said Destination Wairarapa general manager David Hancock Hancock.
Pixie Tipoki, team leader for the Martinborough i-SITE Visitor Information Centre says there was a steady stream of domestic and international visitors coming into both Wairarapa i-SITE’s on a daily basis over the summer. The Wairarapa had also received overflow from large events held outside the region in February, notably the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Wellington and Art Deco Weekend in Napier
Martinborough Top 10 Holiday Park owner Lisa Cornelissen said February has been the busiest month since they opened in November 2005. She said domestic guests were up around 40% and international guests up around 12%. The weekend of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo revenue was up 76% on the equivalent days last year and all rooms were booked solid for four days with spill over to the days either side.

Waihinga Centre project

May 9, 2016 May 2016 Comments Off on Waihinga Centre project

MartinBoroughTownHallCC_V01_ExteriorThe South Wairarapa District Council (SWDC) approved stage one of the Waihinga Centre project in Martinborough at a Council meeting on 24 February 2016.

The approval included the use of ‘early contractor involvement’(ECI) and this methodology forms the basis of how the project will be carried out.
Historically tenders for construction are not called until the architect finalises all the design elements required. Tenders bid on the project as designed.
The ECI process revolves around identifying and selecting contractors at an early stage based on a ‘schedule of rates’ pricing.
Tenders for the Waihinga Centre have been loaded onto the procurement website ’Tenderlink’, the closing date for submitters is 5 May. … Continue Reading

WHAT’S NEWS AT WHAREKAKA

May 9, 2016 May 2016 Comments Off on WHAT’S NEWS AT WHAREKAKA

Waht's-new-at-WharekakaFirstly please let me introduce myself.
I am the new Activities Coordinator at Wharekaka, Maggie Westergren.
I am in my second week in this roll and thoroughly enjoying meeting and getting to know our residents.
So what’s been happening?
We have reading and discussions of daily News Papers, Pilates ,Tai Chi ,Church service, Music from Lance Naysmith ,D.O.T kids and Housie.
Prior to this Ann Nielsen was filling in and has been busy with BBQs,bBrain fitness, Bowls, Baking and board games to mention a few activities.
Wharekaka van should be back in action soon and this will allow outing to continue.
A visit to Fernside gardens organised by the Auxiliary was very much enjoyed.
Aged Concern held there meeting at Wharekaka which was a success.
With this great weather we have been able to take advantage of our pétanque court. This has seen a competitive sprit arise and in one case under hand bowling was seen being used and I don’t think I need to say which country that resident was representing. This will continue so long as the weather allows.

Why can’t a word just mean one thing?

Why can’t a word just mean one thing?
One meaning – no ifs and no buts.
Too many words can meaning two things or more,
Like, for example, nuts.

Nuts is the thing that my dad goes
When he makes that strange burbling noise.
Some people’s nuts are found growing on trees
Like those walnuts of old Uncle Roy’s. … Continue Reading
