Community Board candidiates
Lisa Cornelissan
For the past eight years my husband Frank and I have developed and operated the Martinborough Holiday Park, recently taking it into the TOP 10 marketing group. I am actively involved in local and national tourism organisations as a board member on Destination Wairarapa and as the Vice President of the Holiday Parks Association (HAPNZ). These positions have given me an excellent introduction to governance and board decision making.
Before moving to Martinborough I worked in London for a large multinational in finance and marketing roles. As a Chartered Management Accountant I’m comfortable with the numbers and have developed my people skills in management positions and as a small business owner.
I believe that there are some big opportunities ahead for Martinborough, the town hall project is a once in a lifetime chance to develop a community and civic facility that is fit for purpose and well used.
The recent Olive Harvest Festival and Night market was well-attended by locals and visitors alike and I will support infrastructure improvements that encourage greater use of our Square and town centre for similar events.
The Wellington-Wairarapa Cycle Trail, due to open this summer, will bring a wealth of tourism and economic opportunities to the region, it is important that Martinborough is well-positioned to benefit and I hope to bring a tourism focus to the Community Board table.
On a personal level my interests include food & wine, gardening and reading. I am active in a number of social media channels and look forward to hearing from the Martinborough community at www.facebook.com/LisaCornelissenMartinborough.
Vicky Read
My name is Vicky Read and I have lived in the Martinborough area for most of my life. I run my own architecture practice and have 4 children. My background is mainly in architecture but I also have a degree in commerce and tourism and worked in advertising for several years.
I am standing for the community board because I am interested in the future of our town and the surrounding area. I want to see the community board proactively investigating possibilities for Martinborough, engaging with community groups and ratepayers and advising council on the path that the community would like to take.
As a part of the Town Hall Committee I have been heavily involved in working with SGL group who are currently undertaking a feasibility analysis for the possible development of a community centre, alongside our town hall and town square. Our group is working closely with the council, community board and other groups in town.
I would like to see the community board expanding on this vision for our town and look at other areas and ways that we can ensure a co-ordinated approach to planning for the future.
Adi McMaster
Hello My name is Adi McMaster, I have lived in Martinborough for 15 years, the last 5 at our Pakohe Family Farm and Lime works so I feel I know a bit of rural concerns. My children, 6th generation McMasters, are 18yrs and 22yrs so I have a special interest in Youth in the area. Also aging populations as I’m fast becoming one but still have the time and energy to invest in those interests.
I have done one term on the community board with the help of Pam our chair and our Mayor, and councillors Julie and Max. I feel I’ve accomplished my first wish list; murals and fixing up the swimming pool, establishing a dog park with the help of Max, The Tora picnic tables,( built but not in place!) .But I’m just getting my teeth into things and still have unfinished issues.
I’m on the town hall committee and went to New Plymouth where I met up with Murali Bahska a designer there who specialises in working with council projects. He put me onto Steve Bramley who is now heavily involved with our Town Hall project as a funding consultant expert. We are now well on our way to having a fabulous venue for all our future generations to enjoy.
I attended the Wanaka Community Board Conference and the main issue there seemed to be Youth, and recycling. I feel that more Youth or younger people need to have more say in our community, after all, its their town too!
NOTE. Robert Petelin is standing for both Council and Community Board. Pam Colenso is currently over seas and so we do not have Pam’s photo or profile.
