Community Board notes

March 10, 2014 March 2014 No Comments

The community board have been busy this month discussing a strategic plan for the next three years. We have prioritised some areas that will make it easier for us to focus our energies and assess any applications that come in. ?? Our priority areas are 1. The Martinborough Town Hall and Town Centre Precinct, 2. Our young people, 3. Fostering a strong sense of community, 4. A pedestrian and cycle friendly district and 5. Our community assets.

??We are all a part of the town hall and community centre working group. We see this proposal for a modern community centre as being hugely beneficial for all people in the area and we aim to support the project to its completion. (There is a public meeting to reveal the plans for this complex on the 3rd of April at 7pm at the Town Hall)?? Youth and young people are our second priority. The community board has successfully helped to fund various projects that have helped young people such as the new slide and Matharapa in the past. We aim to build a working relationship with youth and we had Deborah Davidson, the youth development officer employed by Southern Wairarapa safer community council to speak to our last meeting.

??We aim to foster an engaged and involved community – for that reason each of us is taking on geographic areas and different groups in the community to consult with. We love to hear your thoughts and ideas and encourage you to contact any of us with feedback.
??We see a pedestrian and cycle friendly district as a plus for the area – obviously there are a lot of locals and tourists biking and walking around our town centre – we would like to also encourage people to venture out around the larger Martinborough ward to enjoy our beautiful natural environment – and of course they need to feel safe and welcome on our roads.??
Our walk around last month really brought home to us how important the ongoing maintenance of our local assets is. We are having discussions with the council about city care and their huge role in looking after our assets and built environment.
We can all support them by reporting to council when an area is perhaps needing some attention or has broken equipment etc. ??Once we have signed off our new strategy document we will publish our new funding criteria and dates. Thanks for your patience while we undergo this really important process.
