We have to stop these extravagant rate increases and cuts to essential services –which, believe me, they do happen.
I do not support the Amalgamation of the 3 Wairarapa Councils, I would like to see the Status Quo (as it is) remain!
If absolutely necessary amalgamation with Carterton but without the addition of Masterton!

We are not second class citizens! Masterton has run rough shod over us for way too long and needs to stop treating us like the poor relative.

I will do my best to encourage the council to establish and promote a youth employment scheme using the South Waikato District Council’s scheme as a model.

I reside within the Martinborough ward and I believe the people standing for council should reside within the ward they are standing for!

Hope you will give me your votes, council and community board. I will work for you.
Robert (Bob) Petelin.

Julie Riddell

I was raised and educated in the Wairarapa and for the past 30 years my family have farmed in the South Wairarapa and Carterton District. I am seeking to be re-elected on Council. It is about looking ahead as a Councillor and I am positive about advocating on your behalf and making good decisions.

My focus is to keep rates under control and to improve rural and urban infrastructure and services.  The standard of rural roading is imperative in our district to support sustainable economic development. A vibrant and safe town centre with amenities and businesses that are thriving is the key to our local economy.

I am a strong supporter of the Martinborough Town Hall Project and the Wairarapa Irrigation Scheme. I will continue to be a hardworking Councillor for the South Wairarapa District.  I will continue to be a Councillor who listens and acts on community concerns.

Having reached the end of my first term as a Councillor on the South Wairarapa District council I appreciate the strong support my fellow councillors have given me in understanding the workings of council. For this NEW BOY ON THE BLOCK knowing what I now know is vital for being a successful Councillor. As a former adviser once said to me “To be successful you need to understand what you can’t control and to be able to manage what you can.” From this perspective I can now recommend the wisdom in these words and this is what I am now offering the South Wairarapa community in this year’s local body elections.

A case in point, in this current term, council has had to make decisions on a range of significant projects that will have far reaching effects for the district’s well- being. I have been heavily involved in these decisions and know that the finished results will have enormous benefits for our community. I see my standing in this election as a step towards dealing with unfinished business.

If you want an informed and consultative style of leadership – Brian Jepson (Jeppy).

Being Martinborough born and having spent most of my life here I have a great affinity for the town and district. I have owned and managed a successful business for 30 years and also had many years of local government experience so am aware how complex and demanding it is.

I am seeking re-election having served as one your Councillors during the last triennium.

The SWDC continues to improve its financial position and customer service, the management and staff work hard to provide services to our community. Waste water treatment and amalgamation are the main challenges that will face the SWDC in the next few years that will require experience and strong governance.

If re-elected I will continue to be committed to fair, progressive and affordable governance, work to maintain and improve infrastructure, support economic and community initiatives. I will do my best to ensure transparency, openness and will listen to your concerns.
